What are Wood Pellets?

Wood pellets are a small, cylindrical type of fuel made from wood. They usually have a diameter of 6mm, with a length of approximately 10-25mm.

Are Wood Pellets of High Quality?

All of the wood pellets we supply meet the criteria of the ENPlusA1 quality standard as set out by the European governing body for this type of fuel. This certification ensures that all the pellets are of a consistent size and moisture content, with low ash content and a high ash melting temperature. As the UK’s first distributor to be awarded the ENPlusA1 certification, you can be sure that the pellets we provide are the finest available.

How Long does a 40 Lb bag of Wood Pellets Last?

 According to the Pellet Fuels Institute, a 40-lb bag of pellet fuel can provide up to 24 hours of solid heat. A winter’s supply of wood pellets is about 100-150 bags—depending on climatic and lifestyle variations.

How Eco-Friendly are Wood Pellets?

Wood pellets are extremely eco-friendly. They’re completely renewable, and for every tree used to make wood pellets another will be planted to replace it. The biggest environmental benefit of burning wood pellets is the low Carbon Dioxide emissions – burning wood pellets emits 90% less CO2 emissions than heating oil. The CO2 released when burning wood pellets is the same amount that is absorbed during the life cycle of the tree and hence the net release of CO2 can be said to be zero.

What can Wood Pellets be Used For?

Wood pellets can be used instead of charcoal, firewood, oil and gas in heating, cooking, boiler and power plants. An alternative use for wood pellets is animal bedding such as in horse stalls, and all of our pellets are excellent for this.

Why are Pellets Better than Wood?
Pellet Fuel has some distinct advantages over cord wood.

You now have a fuel that is about 2.5 x denser than firewood, which makes it easier to transport. Pellet fuel has moisture content around 7%, where as the best seasoned firewood is going to be 20%, that makes pellet fuel easier to burn, and with lower emissions.
 
Do Pellet Stoves Use A lot of Electricity?

They also require electricity to run fans, controls, and pellet feeders. Under normal usage, they consume about 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) or about $9 worth of electricity per month. Unless the stove has a back-up power supply, the loss of electric power results in no heat and possibly some smoke in the house.

It’s not always possible to store your wood pellets inside. If you don’t have room to store your pellets in the garage or basement, the next best thing is a shed or shelter in a raised, dry place. If you can only store pellets outside – you can do that too.

How Long Will 1 Ton of Wood Pellets Last?
 
Depending on factors related to your home size and pellet stove usage, you should be able to get around 24 hours of heat from one bag of pellets. There are 50 40-pound bags in one ton, and we recommend 2 tons to 5 tons to last you the entire heating season. This equals 100 to 250 bags.

Can I Store Wood Pellets in my House?
 
The best place to store pellets is indoors, such as in a garage or basement. The area should be free from moisture and humidity, and should not be susceptible to flooding. It’s best to store the bags off the floor on pallets or cardboard slips.

The best containers for wood pellets are moisture-proof, airtight containers. This will keep them from absorbing any excess moisture and help to preserve their flavor. You can use plastic or metal containers, as long as they are properly sealed.

Softwood or Hardwood Pellets ?

Most pellet stoves today are built to burn hardwood or softwood pellets with equal efficiency. So, it’s up to you to select a brand you like based on quality and budget. Softwoods can be more expensive, but with their higher heating value, you will get more heat with less pellets, and far less ash. (You get what you pay for, we recommend softwoods)

Are these Wood Pellets of Great Quality and Certified ?

Our Quality Certification program guarantees that the pellets we sell exceed the ‘premium fuel standards’ defined by the Pellet Fuels Institute. We send our Quality Certified pellets to an independent laboratory to ensure they have less than 1% ash, less than 8% moisture, and a high heating value.

How Will My Order be Delivered?

If you’ve ordered pre-packed bags of wood pellets then one of our delivery vehicles will arrive and unload your fuel. If you’ve ordered bulk blown pellets then one of our vehicles will blow the fuel directly into your store. Our drivers are highly trained and we take time during the delivery to ensure minimal damage to your fuel.

How Much Ash is Produced from Your Wood Pellets?

The percentage of ash produced as a proportion of weight is very low for wood pellets, at less than 0.7%. This means there is very little maintenance of the boiler, and what ash is produced can be used as a fertiliser in the garden.

Where to I Store my Pellets ?

Bagged pellets should be kept dry at all times and should therefore be kept under cover. Loose pellets should be kept in a specially designed pellet store that will have been supplied as part of the original installation.

Do You need a Chimney for a Pellet Fire?

Luckily for you, the pellet stove does not require a chimney. However, if you have a chimney, you can use it for venting your new pellet stove. Always remember that venting a pellet stove can be done by using the closest wall and horizontally venting out through the wall
